On October 15, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Foreign Minister of Türkiye Hakan Fidan.
Hakan Fidan said that the current Palestine-Israel conflict is continuously escalating. Türkiye believes that civilian casualties and displacement should be stopped, and the warfare should be prevented from spreading to the whole region or even to a wider range. The pressing task is an immediate ceasefire and the end of war, and in the meantime seeking a long-term and lasting solution to the Palestinian question. Any solution without the two-state solution is infeasible. Türkiye does not accept the punitive measures imposed by Israel on civilians in the Gaza Strip, supports China's efforts to seek a solution to the Palestinian question in the Security Council, and stands ready to work with China to seek lasting peace in the region.
Wang Yi said that the right to self-defense should be exercised in accordance with international humanitarian law, and should not be at the expense of innocent civilian casualties. Parties to the conflict should exercise restraint, cease fire and end the war immediately, seek dialogue, and must guarantee the most basic living conditions of the people in the Gaza Strip, and open corridors for humanitarian assistance as soon as possible. The Palestinian question is always the core of the Middle East issue. If this question is not settled in a just and reasonable manner, it is impossible for the Middle East to realize lasting peace. Facts have proved again that the only way out to settle the Palestinian question is to ensure the effective implementation of resolutions of the Security Council and the true implementation of the two-state solution. China is now in communication and coordination with all relevant parties to prevent the expansion of war and avoid a humanitarian disaster, and will continue to provide the Gaza Strip with emergency humanitarian assistance through the United Nations and bilateral channels. China will support every effort conducive to advancing the implementation of the two-state solution, and stands ready to maintain communication with Türkiye to inject more stabilizing factors into the turbulent international landscape.
