On December 4, 2022, Ambassador Liu Shaobin attended the unveiling ceremony of the Hunutlu Power Plant invested and constructed by Shanghai Electric Power Company Limited. Mr. Alparslan Bayraktar, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, Mr. Lin Hua, Chairman of Shanghai Electric Power and others were also present.

Ambassador Liu congratulated the smooth inauguration of the Hunutlu Power Plant, and extended his greetings to all the Chinese and Turkish employees who have been on the front line of construction and operation. Ambassador Liu noted that the Hunutlu Power Plant is a pearl project ofhigh-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Türkiye and a model of win-win cooperation. The two Heads of State appreciated the achievements of this project during their meeting this September. It is hoped that the two sides will continue to work together to make this project a model of green and low-carbon cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Bayraktar said that as a model project of Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries, the Hunutlu Power Plant adopts high-tech ultra-clean emission standards, accounts for 4%-6% of Türkiye’s electricity supply and creates a large number of jobs, thus bringing sigfificant economic and social benefits. It is hoped that Türkiye and China will further increase energy cooperation and facilitate greater synergy betwen development strategies of the two countries.
