On August 8, 2022, Ambassador Liu Shaobin attended a seminar hosted by CRI TÜRK, the Turkish channel of China Radio International, to elaborate on China’s position on the Taiwan question. Ambassador Liu pointed out that Nancy Pelosi’s Visit to Taiwan has aroused strong indignation among the Chinese people and widespread opposition from the international community. Ambassador Liu noted that the historical ins and outs of the Taiwan question are crystal-clear, so are the facts and status quo that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China. The one-China principle is universally recognized by the international community. “Relying on the United States to seek independence” is a dead end, and “using Taiwan to control China” is doomed to fail. Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan in disregard of China’s grave concerns and firm opposition. It is only natural that China makes a firm response. China is not only firmly safeguarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also upholding the international law and the basic norms governing international relations. Up until now, more than 100 countries have spoken out, reaffirming their firm commitment to the one-China policy and underscoring their understanding and support of China’s legitimate position, which demonstrates that justice is upheld by the overwhelming majority of the people. China appreciates Türkiye’s adherence to the one-China policy, and hopes that China and Türkiye will continue to understand and support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests.

President Hasan of the Turkish Chinese Friendship Foundation (TCFF), Chief Editor Erdoğdu of CRI TÜRK, Reporter Güler from Cumhuriyet, and more than 20 scholars and college students attended the seminar. The participants said that the historical context of Taiwan question is well known to the whole world. The one-China principle is the universal consensus of the international community. Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan seriously trampled on the one-China principle, once again exposing the US’ purpose of creating turmoil and violating international law and norms of international relations. Adhering to the one-China policy is the consensus of people from all circles in Türkiye. Türkiye and China should further strengthen cooperation and make positive contributions to the building of a multi-polar international order.
